Two Zero One Four
With the new year in full swing, and the rather excellent content creation club REDmatter now back in full swing, I’ve got the kick in the butt to have something to blog about again!
The first task for the year is all about goals for the year, now this isn’t a new years resolution thing, as I freaking hate them! Hence why this is coming in when January has almost past, I’ve had time to reflect a little, think about what I want to achieve, where I want to go and generally what I want to do.
This is a personal blog, so I’m going to talk about my personal goals more than anything professional, maybe a little, but nothing major.
Since the beginning of January I’ve been on the paleo diet, lets not get into a debate about the good and bad of it here, however the good thing for me has been a noticeable improvement to my physical condition simply by cutting the crap from my diet, with the occasional cheat day/meal.
My goal this year is to generally keep at it. I’m not going to eat 100% paleo, even throughout January allowing the cheat day/2 cheat meals in a week has made it far easier to handle, so I’m going to stick at it!
I’ve cooked sooooooo many nice meals, eaten better and despite spending far more money at the supermarket, by not eating out regularly, I’ve saved money. Here’s to a positive change sticking around!
At the beginning of 2013, I experienced one of the most difficult periods of my life as I dealt with the loss of one of my best friends to suicide. During 2011, he posted a photo a day to an album on facebook, I decided between Christmas and new year that it would be a fitting way to keep his spirit with us by doing the same thing in 2014. 2 other friends have joined in and even after a month we have all agreed that it gives us a reason to smile each day, as we are looking for the positive thing to share.
I’ve already experience a few long conversations about cooking, movies and music because of it, whilst talking to friends and family that I don’t see nearly enough of.
So here’s to you Trev, you’ve inspired Matt, Scott and me to do something fun, I think you will be happy with the photos.
In a round the houses way, I’m connecting 1 and 2…with the general goal of health improvement (I’m 32 and been avoiding it a little over recent years) and doing positive things to honour my friend, I’ve decided I’m going to enter the London Triathlon in August and raise money for a charity of his parents choosing.
It’s 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run. At present I can comfortably run 10km and cycle 40km, now I need to work on swimming and doing them one after another!
I have thought about doing half marathon’s before, but for some reason a triathlon has always been more tempting, in the wise words of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson….”Just bring it!”
I need 2 new tattoos already. I need to get them done. My tattoos are positive reminders of the best things in my life, so I need:

Millhouse on a hovercraft for being James and Bridie’s best man.
One of the things I put on my list last year was to paint my kitchen…should probably get round to doing that.
